PM — First Week
What a new Project Manager or Co-PM does in their first week at MASCI.
Welcome to PM. The PM portal is the project-level lens at MASCI. Your first week is mostly listening, reading the project history, and building rapport with the field. PMs who try to start by changing things in week one almost always regret it.
- Day 1 — Receive your PM credentials from an admin. Sign in at /pm/login and complete your forced password change.
- Day 1 — Read every project you'll be assigned. Last 30 days of Daily Reports, last 90 days of incidents, last quarter's labor totals. Don't act yet. Just read.
- Day 2 — Visit at least one active jobsite for each project you're assigned. Meet the foreman in person. They are your most important relationship.
- Day 2-3 — Sit with your outgoing PM (if there is one) for a half-day handoff. Ask: 'What's brittle here? What did the last PM not write down?'
- Day 3-4 — Walk one weekly review cycle with another PM. Don't lead it — just watch what they look at and in what order.
- Day 4-5 — Read the deep PM training articles once. They're long; skim and bookmark.
- End of week 1 — Identify the one project that needs the most attention. Schedule a site visit for week 2.
Why this mattersPMs are the bridge between field operations and project finance. The first week's job isn't to demonstrate command — it's to build a clear mental model of where the field is, what's working, and what the previous PM was nervous about. That model is what every later decision depends on.
Send a short note to each foreman in your first week: 'I'm your new PM, my phone is X, my email is Y, call me before noon for fastest reply.' Most communication friction in PM work comes from the field not knowing how to reach you. Close that gap on day three.
